Those who are relatively young and are traveling should get to know countries with highest drinking age. They might end up wanting to drink at a local bar or club and then be denied entrance because they are not of proper age. Even if they are allowed to drink in their own country before, each country has its own set of rules and regulations that are meant to be followed. Of course, there are also some countries that have set rules because they are part of countries that consume the most alcohol.

There are a lot of cultural norms that are involved at the type of age set in order to start drinking. There are some countries that have young drinking ages because of what they believe in and of course, there are also some countries that have set high drinking ages so that those who can already drink in other countries cannot start drinking there just yet.

Will it even be surprising to know that there are some countries that do not set a minimum drinking age at all? This means that even children are allowed to drink as long as they can afford it. This has always been talked about yet nothing is being done to change it or to stop this type of practice in some parts of the world.

Of course, there are also some countries wherein the consummation of alcohol is illegal so people there of any age cannot drink. Here are the countries with highest drinking age all over the world.

 

7. Nicaragua – 19 Years Old

The most popular drink in Nicaragua is actually its local rum. There are some rum types that are considered to be more expensive than the others because of how they were made. Of course, those who are below 19 years old will not be allowed to drink at pubs even with the presence of a guardian.

6. South Korea – 19 Years Old

In the year 2014, the number of South Koreans who drink alcohol has increased a lot. This has been contributed to their current economy that does not seem to be doing as well as before. In Korea however, it is considered  to be an honor if your boss or your elder will invite you out for a drink even as a group because drinking in one way by  which you can show your respect in Korea.

5. Iceland – 20 Years Old

There was a time when alcohol was totally prohibited in Iceland. There are still some prohibitions right now though like the fact that beer over %2.25 alcohol is not allowed to be sold. Since beer is usually priced lower than other beverages, this makes it more available than all the other types of alcohol that are available.

4. Japan – 20 Years Old

In Japan, it seems that a lot of parties cannot be complete without drinking. A lot of Japanese people enjoy drinking and they do it socially. The drinking environment in Japan is so different from what is being portrayed on television because those who drink seem to be more polite and respectful in real life. Of course, there are still some who abuse alcohol that may end up doing some trouble but it is not as common as compared to some western countries. 3. United States – 21 Years Old

While in most states in the USA, the legal drinking age is 21, there are also some that have different rules from the common ones that have been set. For instance, it is illegal to purchase beer or wine in Idaho at certain time periods. In Kansas no alcohol can be purchased at all. It may differ from one state to another but the usual legal purchasing and drinking age is 21.

2. Kazakhstan – 21 Years Old

It seems that the legal age limit set by Kazakhstan has not stopped people from drinking. According to some reports, Kazakhstan drinks the most out of all the Central Asian countries. There are also some people who abuse the alcohol and this has led to many problems not only to the people involved but to their families as well.

1. Delhi, India – 25 Years Old

Aside from Delhi, there are still other places in India wherein the legal drinking age is 25. Some examples are Haryana and Punjab. Aside from that, delivery of alcohol in Delhi is not allowed. People can purchase the alcohol themselves and bring it home if they would want to but they cannot have it delivered like food or other beverages.
