Iceland takes the 1st position in the list of 25 safest countries in the world. With an ideal score of 1.1, the country has maintained this position since the first iteration of the GPI in 2008. Iceland witnessed an increase in its score by 0.27 percent, along with an improvement in its incarceration rate.
Iceland’s incarceration rate is 33 per 1000 people, which makes it the lowest incarceration rate in Europe, and globally, it is the eighth-lowest. All these factors, including the militarized domain, societal safety and security domain, and crime indicators, combine to make it the safest country globally.
