China ranks #1 on our list of 12 Most Advanced Countries in Renewable Energy given it generated 1,152.5 TWh of renewable energy last year, which is 31.5% of the world’s total.

In addition to being a leader in manufacturing solar and wind equipment, China is a leader in terms of the implementation of renewable energy.

While China’s national government has a goal of increasing its renewable energy capacity to 1,200 gigawatts by 2030 from the 635 gigawatts at the end of 2021, for instance, development plans from China’s regional governments have collective targets to increase renewable capacity by over 600 GW for 2021 through 2025. If that were to occur, China would have more than 1,200 gigawatt capacity by the end of 2025 rather than 2030.
