Diageo Plc ranks 5th in our list of the 15 biggest liquor companies in the world with net sales of $8.2 billion in the first half of 2021. The London-based alcohol company produces premium alcoholic beverage brands such as Captain Morgan, Guinness, Johnnie Walker, and J&B. Diageo is allocating an $80 million budget to ramp up its production of ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages in its 225,000 sq. ft. facility.

Despite COVID-19’s effect on travel retail and on-trade constraints, Diageo’s net organic sales increased by 1%. Shares of DEO surged 40% over the last 12 months.

4. Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE: BUD)

Ranking 4th on the list of the 15 biggest liquor companies in the world is Anheuser-Busch InBev. The Belgium-based liquor company produces over 600 brands of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages that are distributed in over 150 countries mainly in the North, Middle, and South Americas, and Asia Pacific regions. Among the company’s popular liquor are Corona and Budweiser beers. 

The company’s revenue in the fourth quarter of 2020 was $12.8 billion, up 4.5% compared to the same period in 2019. Shares of BUD increased 37.7% over the last twelve months.

3. Wuliangye Yibin Co. Ltd.

Market cap: $153.7 billion

Chinese spirit-maker Wuliangye Yibin ranks 3rd in our list of the biggest liquor companies in the world. Wuliangye Yibin is the second-largest baijiu producer in China by market cap. The Chinese liquor is made from powdered rice or wheat grain. As per the company’s annual report, Wuliangye Yibin’s net profit distributed to shareholders jumped by about 14% year over year to around $3 billion. 

The stock has gained 128.7% over the past twelve months. 

2. LVMH Moët Hennessy LV (OTC: LVMUY)

Market cap: $335.8 billion

One of the biggest luxury brands in the world, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton ranks 2nd in the list of the biggest liquor companies in the world. The Paris-based luxury company produces wines and spirits, leather goods, perfume, watches, and jewelry. Louis Vuitton’s wine and spirits segment revenue declined by 14% while its fashion and leather goods saw an 18% increase in 2020. In 2020, the company’s acquisitions of Château d’ Esclans and Château du Galoupet contributed to its annual revenue as becomes one of the major players in the high-end rosé wines market.

The company’s revenue in 2020 fell 17% to $52.8 billion. Shares of LVMUY increased 64% over the past twelve months.

Moutai is one of the most expensive drinks in China where a majority of the company’s revenue comes from. According to disposable income data from the municipal government of Renhuai in Guizhou province, Maotai was the wealthiest town in western China as of 2019, where the Maotai drink was originated. Owning a bottle of Maotai liquor is treated as an investment in China because it is treated as an asset in the region.

Kweichow Moutai’s revenue in 2020 increased 13.7% to $17.4 billion. Shares of Kweichow Moutai soared 84% over the past twelve months.
