1. Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross is the star of the comedy “Black-ish” and won the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She is the first black woman since 1982 to win this award, making it in an incredibly special win. This comes nearly a year after the almost all-white Oscar nominations which led to a social media firestorm. Ross has always been outspoken about social issues, and she used her moments accepting her award to dedicate it to people of color. The most important quote from her speech is: “This is for all the women, women of color and colorful people whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important,” she said. “But I want you to know that I see you. We see you.”

This is such an important and well-deserved win. Women in comedy are often disenfranchised, especially black women, whose stories are often not told. For Ross to win this award for a show that focuses exclusively on the narratives of black characters shows children that they are worthwhile and can not only succeed but be recognized for that success.

That being said, these were the 4 most inspiring moments from the 2017 Golden Globes.
