I was honestly surprised to find out that New Orleans has such a high percentage of religious people, especially considering the fact that it is one of the most unique, quirkiest and accepting cities in the entire country.

9. Fresno

81% of the people in Fresno are irreligious, which is an exception to the general trend of California, which actually has a lot of cities which are not very religious at all.

5. Charleston

While North Carolina has had its entries, it is now South Carolina’s turn, and is actually nicknamed ‘The Holy City’, which supposedly refers to the religious tolerance present there.

2. Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem in North Carolina is also its most religious city by far with Christianity of course making the largest religion, with several branches having a strong presence in the city as well.

1. Greenville

Unaffiliated percentage in 2019: 13

Located in South Carolina, Greenville tops the list of the 10 most religious cities in the US, with only 13% of the population claiming to be unaffiliated with any religion in 2019. This explains why it also has a lot of private religious schools as well. The vast majority of the religious people are Baptists.
