Publisher: Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA)

2017 Sales: 1.49 million

Lifetime Sales: 1.49 million

BioWare’s latest Mass Effect game has narrowly outsold Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2017, claiming tenth spot on the list. BioWare can thank Xbox One players, as Andromeda has outsold Infinite Warfare on that console by a little over 41,000 copies. In contrast, Infinite Warfare has sold 13,000 more copies than Andromeda on PS4.

However, Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) has to be asking themselves where all of the game’s Xbox fanbase has gone. The Mass Effect trilogy averaged 3 million copies sold per game on Xbox 360 alone, while Andromeda is currently languishing at 526,159 copies on Xbox One. The XOne’s smaller install base in comparison to the 360 is a factor, but doesn’t totally account for the large decline.

With sales taking such a severe downturn, it raises the possibly that this could be the last Mass Effect game we see for some time. While the game was supposed to have a sequel, it’s reportedly been shelved indefinitely, with sales of Andromeda no doubt partially to blame.
