Microsoft Surface Competitors: Microsoft Surface About to Face Serious Windows 8 Competition

Microsoft Surface Competitors: Just when it appears that the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Surface tablet has enough problems, another one is coming down the barrel.

With the Consumer Electronics Show a few days away, it appears that Asus is ramping up for the launch of several Windows 8 tablets.

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)As detailed by TabTimes, the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Surface is going to be faced with even more competition in the near future. This time around, it is Windows 8 competitors.

Here is a breakdown from the TabTimes article on what to expect from three upcoming tablet releases:

The first of these is the VivoTab, a Windows 8 tablet promising a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z2760 processor, an 11.6-inch display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of memory, dual-facing cameras, a Wacom digitizer and the option to add a mobile dock. Battery life is pegged at 10.5 hours.

There’s also a Windows RT version of the VivoTab, the VivoTab RT, which offers a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 resolution display, Nvidia’s Tegra 3 system-on-chip and options for cellular connectivity and the same mobile dock.

The third new tablet is the innovative VivoTab Smart, which Asus hopes to sell with the “Transleeve” accessory (optional). This is said to comprise a keyboard, protective sleeve and kickstand all in one, making it look similar to Microsoft’s Touch and Type Cover for the Surface tablet.

As with the VivoTab, the model runs the Atom Z2760 processor and hence comes with full Windows 8, although the display is smaller at 10.1-inches. The model does however boast 64GB of memory and 2GB of RAM.

Let’s be clear here: it is not like Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) had no idea these tablets were hitting the market. That being said, the Surface’s slow start out of the gate has to be a bit of a concern. The tablet is already trailing industry leaders from Apple and Amazon, and now has to contend with competition powered by Windows 8.
