When we published our list of the poorest states in America, many readers from these states demanded that we account for race, implying that the results would be significantly different once the minorities are out of the picture. Well, we did.

Even though we don’t agree with the methodology used by the Census Bureau and calculated a better methodology, we’ll stick with the Census Bureau numbers to be able to compare different rankings.
