10 Easiest Elementary School Band Instruments to Play

If your kid has an ear for music, take a look at this list of 10 easiest elementary school band instruments to play.

When I was in elementary school, I had my fair share of learning how to play random instruments. Outside of school, I was enrolled in violin lessons, but at school, I remember learning how to play the recorder as well as a xylophone for one school musical performance. I guess the recorder was intended to teach us something about tune and notes, but I still cannot, for the life of me, figure out why we were required to buy and play those things. Not to mention, that they sound awful — especially when 20 of them are being played in a room of elementary school kids. However, I enjoyed the violin and thought it was so cool to play the xylophone for a school-wide performance. My chances were almost ruined when I broke my wrist days before the concert, but I somehow managed to play one-handed. When it comes to elementary school music, that’s not as impressive as it sounds because you basically just hit a couple notes every few seconds.

I’m not sure what musical curriculums look like these days, but I think it’s important to have in schools — even if it includes that annoying recorder. Also, studies have shown that children benefit in a lot of other areas when they learn how to play an instrument and are musically inclined. According to a study conducted by Northwestern’s Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory, found that children who learned to play a musical instrument in class, had improved neural processing. Effective Music Teaching says learning to play an instrument increase math and reading comprehension skills, memory, concentration, and even relieves stress. These are all great habits and traits for kids to develop in those important, elementary school years.
