On September 17, Lucid Group, Inc. This sent shares of Lucid Group, Inc. higher, and the stock ended the trading session with gains of nearly 6%.

Lucid (LCID) Rises After Bolt Partnership, But Cash Burn Remains a Concern

The partnership will combine Lucid Group, Inc.’s software-defined vehicle platform with Bolt’s European data, operating infrastructure, and mobility expertise. The companies will be looking to develop and launch autonomous mobility services at scale, using vehicles based on Lucid Group, Inc.’s upcoming Midsize platform.

Bolt plans to deploy at least 25,000 fully autonomous vehicles across multiple European cities and countries, supporting its ambitious goal of having 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035.

The financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

The deal comes as Lucid Group, Inc. continues to face significant financial pressure. The company has been pursuing an ambitious expansion strategy. However, its revenue growth has not yet been enough to offset substantial operating losses and the high costs associated with building its global factories.

The company’s Q2 2026 results highlighted both progress and continued challenges. Lucid Group, Inc. managed to increase vehicle production by 24% from the year-ago quarter, while deliveries rose 19% and revenue jumped 56%. However, the results were overshadowed by an adjusted net loss of $2.78 per share, compared with Wall Street’s consensus estimate of $2.41 per share.

Cash burn was another major concern, which reached $1.47 billion, up from just over $1.01 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. The higher spending and widening losses raise major concerns among investors.

Still, Lucid Group, Inc.’s leadership said it had identified $1.4 billion in cash flow improvements for 2026 “across operating costs, capital spending, and working capital.”

What the Numbers Say

Hedge fund interest in the stock remained unchanged in the second quarter. According to Insider Monkey‘s database, 23 hedge funds held Lucid Group, Inc. at the end of the second quarter, the same number as in the first quarter.

Short interest remains particularly high. As of August 31, short interest stood at 45.81% of the company’s float, pointing to a high level of bearish positioning in the stock.

Analyst sentiment remains mixed. Of the 12 analysts covering Lucid Group, Inc., 25% rate the stock a Buy, 50% have a Hold rating, and 25% rate it a Sell. However, the median 12-month price target of $7 represents more than 60% upside from the stock’s current price.

The new partnership could give Lucid Group, Inc. another potential avenue for growth, especially through its planned Midsize platform. However, the scale of the company’s cash burn and its larger-than-expected loss show that investors still face significant financial risks.
