BlackBerry Ltd. (NYSE:BB) offers an attractive mix of accelerating topline, robust margins, positive cash flows, and a healthy balance sheet. However, the real tradeoff is the stock price. After an almost 123% jump in 2026, the stock carries a weight of expectations requiring continued execution. Any hurdles down the line or slowdown in growth would put such an elevated valuation under pressure. Investors need to weigh the strength of BlackBerry’s recent results against its existing premium valuation.
BlackBerry has gained a little over 120% during the last six months, compared to a 24.29% for Insider Monkey Billionaire Index and 15.09% for S&P 500 ETF (SPY).

Revenue Growth and Healthy Margins Fuel Optimism
After closing at $8.45 on October 12, the stock has rallied 95.82% over the past 52 weeks, compared to the S&P 500’s 17.38% gain during the same period. The key consideration for investors is whether fundamentals justify the climb.
The business fundamentals are showing strong momentum. Following a 26% year-over-year revenue growth during the second quarter of fiscal 2027, the total revenue for the last twelve months stands at $614 million. Profitability metrics are also solid, with a trailing operating margin of approximately 16.0% and a net margin of 13.1%
However, the company’s 10.6% return on equity gives an impression that the market is pricing in future growth rather than current returns. At the same time, In the recently reported second quarter print, BlackBerry saw a widening gap between its QNX and secure communications segments. What does this entail for the rest of the fiscal year?
The QNX Backlog Behind the Rally
The BlackBerry QNX operations are poised for further growth, as the company recently secured a major contract that adds more than $100 million in estimated future royalties to the QNX backlog. The company’s Alloy Kore platform was selected by Coretura, a JV between the Volvo Group and Daimler Truck, as the foundational software layer for its next-generation commercial vehicles architecture. Apparently, Jim Cramer is also impressed with the QNX backlog that currently stands in excess of $1 billion.
Short interest in the stock does not appear alarming. A short float of 6.42% suggests moderate level of active bets against the stock. A short ratio of 4.22 indicates approximately 4.2 days to cover short positions at average trading volume, although this does not necessarily signal an impending short squeeze. Overall, the stock’s ongoing rally seems to be driven more by the business fundamentals and the broader sentiment, rather than any short covering.
Institutional Sentiment
Data tracked across 1,000+ hedge funds by Insider Monkey reveals an increasing number of smart money managers invested in the company. As per 13F filing data for Q2 2026, a total of 31 hedge funds held positions in the stock compared to just 19 by the end of the first quarter.
As per Yahoo Finance database, Legal & General Group is the largest institutional investor with 38.08 million shares, representing 6.49% of outstanding shares. Other notable institutional names include Voya Investment Management and T. Rowe Price Investment Management that hold 4.76% and 3.42% of outstanding shares, respectively.
When a Great Turnaround Meets a Rich Valuation
With a $4.93 billion market capitalization, BlackBerry is currently valued at a trailing price-to-earnings multiple of 83.8x, compared with 47.2x on a forward basis. Compared to a trailing revenue of $614 million, investors are assigning a notable premium to the company’s growth trajectory. The sharp drop from trailing to forward metric reflects on optimism around earnings growth potential. BlackBerry’s rally could remain sustainable if QNX growth translates into stronger earnings and cash flows, but its premium valuation leaves little room for execution setbacks.
