Billionaire Mario Gabelli is the founder and chairman of GAMCO Investors, the money manager he started in 1977. He grew up in the Bronx and studied at Columbia Business School under professor Roger Murray, according to Forbes. Gabelli is best known for a method he calls Private Market Value with a Catalyst. He estimates what a buyer would pay for the whole company, then looks for an event, such as a sale or a management change, that could bring that value out.
