Venture Global (VG) Soars as Geopolitical Tensions Fuel Natural Gas Rally

Venture Global climbed by 12.7 percent week-on-week, as investors rotated their portfolios into energy stocks amid the surging prices of oil and gas driven by escalating geopolitical tensions.

As of Friday, Bloomberg data showed that August Henry Hub natural gas futures traded up by 1.85 percent to $2.91 amid concerns over tighter global gas supplies.

Crude benchmarks also jumped sharply. Brent climbed by 4.59 percent to $88.10, while West Texas Intermediate increased by 4.48 percent to $82.49—both at their highest levels in about a month.

Ceasefire Collapses

The latest surge in energy prices was sparked by the renewed tensions between the US and Iran.

On Friday, Kuwait—one of the world’s 10 largest oil producers—said that Iran damaged a power and water desalination plant following a missile attack, sparking a fire that affected a large number of its electricity-generating units.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump signaled the collapse of Washington’s temporary ceasefire with Tehran, which could have paved the way for a permanent peace deal, saying in a social media post that the US has reinstated the Iranian blockade in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran allegedly violated the ceasefire terms by continuing to attack or threaten commercial ships and conducting military operations despite the agreement.

Iran, which sits along a chokepoint through which roughly 20 percent of the global crude oil supply passes, said that it holds authority over the waterway.

Latest available data on Marine Traffic said that a total of 57 transits were recorded in the Strait of Hormuz last weekend, versus 130 daily before the conflict began.

Conflicts Fuel Energy Rally

The twin wars, on the other hand, have emerged as a tailwind for energy stocks, with their earnings closely tied to higher natural gas prices and robust global demand.

Venture Global Inc. (NYSE:VG), for its part, is up by 24 percent this month alone.

In the first quarter of the year, at the onset of the conflict, the company delivered a 23 percent jump in its net income to $488 million from $396 million in the same period last year.

Revenues also surged by 59 percent to $4.599 billion from $2.894 billion year-on-year.

Venture Global Inc. (NYSE:VG) said that it exported 130 cargoes and sold 481 TBtus of liquefied natural gas, a new quarterly record and a 111-percent jump from the first quarter of 2025.

Will Q2 Be Even Stronger?

With elevated geopolitical tensions persisting throughout the entire second quarter, investors are placing bets that April to June could deliver another jump in earnings when it reports the results.

Venture Global Inc. (NYSE:VG) is scheduled to announce the results of its earnings performance for the period before the market opens on Tuesday, August 11. A conference call will be held to discuss the results.

Hedge Fund Participation More-Than-Doubled

Venture Global Inc. (NYSE:VG) saw a significant jump in hedge fund participation in the first quarter of the year, signaling that institutional investors have become substantially more bullish on the stock.

Based on data from Insider Monkey, 50 hedge funds held a stake in the company during the period, markedly higher than the 22 in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Their combined holdings also soared by 683 percent to $838.5 million from only $107.1 million quarter-on-quarter.
