1. Ansel Adams

The oldest (deceased) photographer on our list can truly be considered a master of contrast and light, due to his magnificent black and white takes on nature and the wilderness. As the developer of the zone system – a technique that combines contrast and exposure to achieve a higher quality level – Ansel Adams assured his contribution to the world of photography for many years to come. And although he passed away in 1984, his pictures are still very well-known and recognizable through their dramatic depiction of natural habitats, making him one of the world’s most famous photographers.
