The 10 Wildest Conspiracy Theories

Imagine a world without mysteries, without the wildest conspiracy theories; what a dull world that would be, no? What fun would it be after all, if the world was so devoid of interesting or debatable events that there was simply no controversy and no questioning anything that happened in the world? It would be pretty dull indeed.

Thankfully, that is not the world we love in, and conspiracy theories abound over all manner of events, some of which are outlandish, others so rational that you wonder how they’re not the accepted truth, but are still considered as some of the wildest conspiracy theories to this day. And that’s the beauty of conspiracy theories; they are events that will likely forever be shrouded in some level of secrecy or mystery. Are we ever really going to have a definitive answer or closure over who killed JFK, and/or who was really behind it? Probably not.

In other cases, conspiracy theories are crafted seemingly from nothing but wild imaginations, and it’s these theories that tend to give a bad name in general to conspiracy theorists as being people who simply want to believe in the alternative for the sake of it, rather than because it necessarily makes the most sense. As some people theorize, the glut of conspiracy theories could even be false flags of sorts, set up to muddy the conspiracy waters and obscure the real conspiracies from the public’s eyes.

Whatever the case may be, we’ve gathered a list of the ten wildest conspiracy theories today. Check them out and see which ones sound plausible, and which have the trademarks of fantasy. And if you simply can’t get enough conspiracies, we have another great list you can check out afterwards, The 7 Most Popular Conspiracy Theories.

So put your tin foil hats on now, and let’s check out the list.

10. The Holocaust Never Took Place

The Holocaust, during which five to six million Jews were executed, never took place at all, or not nearly on the massive scale that is accepted as fact, according to some conspiracies. They claim that the number of Jews killed was actually many times less than the reported number and that there was no government policy against Jews at all. People claim that Jews made this up for their own interests, and to justify the creation of Israel. They also believe that the deaths were due to hunger and disease and not because of Nazi policies.

9. The Death of Princess Diana

From the moment Diana’s life was taken in a tragic car accident, theories have abounded as to whether it was set up or not. The claim is that The Royal Family of Great Britain murdered Princess Diana to stop her from releasing embarrassing and damaging information about Prince Charles, her ex-husband and future King. In 2013, the case was reopened on the basis of a claim that the deadly car accident was set up by the British Special Forces, though it ultimately found no evidence linking the 1997 accident to those claims.

8. Bermuda Triangle (the Devil’s Triangle)

Covering almost 500,000 square miles of the Atlantic ocean, with terminals in Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico, the Bermuda Triangle is located in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean. It is a fact that a large number of ships, boats and other vessels have gone missing in the area; though the explanation for their disappearances is where the conspiracies come into play. According to the theories, supernatural things are responsible for the disappearances. Some of them say that extraterrestrial entities are to blame, while others think that the mythical lost continent of Atlantis is responsible. There are many explanations, but no definitive answers as to what caused all the missing ships and planes, if anything at all.

7. The New World Order (Satanic Order)

The Freemasons and the Illuminati are two of the most popular of the many secret societies that are out there. Many theorists think that there is a thing called ‘The New World Order’ that is going to come into effect, and that there will be one worldwide government at that time. There is a theory that the popular signs, like the eye on the American dollar bill and a pyramid is said to be the work of the Illuminati. Many of the people also believe that the Freemasons are also behind the plan to take over the world.

6. The Moon Landing Never Happened

The landing on the moon that the world watched live on July 20, 1969, was a conspiracy set up by NASA and other key organizations according to some theorists. They believe that the surface Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked upon was not the surface of the moon, but was instead a man-made stage. The available technologies of that time were not enough to determine the hoax they claimed. In recent times, they have conducted experiments on the photographs and videos and concluded that something is not proper there. Though NASA has insisted on their landing on the moon, it has not quenched the debate in the least.

5. Area 51, a Secret Military Base

Ever since a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, the region has become a hotbed for conspiracy theorist activity. Conspiracy theorists claim that the ruins of that UFO are stored at Area 51, a secret military base located about 90 miles north of Las Vegas. It is alleged that structures are built deep in the desert ground, with buildings going down thirty to forty stories below the surface. The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to UFO folklore.

4. AIDS is a Man-made Disease

The conspiracy theorists claim that the deadly HIV virus was created by the CIA to wipe out homosexuals and African-Americans. Some believe that AIDS is a biological weapon that was created to control the population of lower-class citizens in the United States. In another claim, some state that AIDS was accidentally created by a scientist who was working on a polio vaccine using chimpanzee kidney cultures that were infected with SIV (simian immunodeficiency virus) and as a result, a mutant variant of the disease, AIDS, was created. Though scientific consensus has rejected all these conspiracy theories, the true origin of the disease remains a mystery.

3. Jesus and Mary Magdalene Were Married

The marriage between Jesus and Mary Magdalene has been a hot topic of contention for years. Though it is the basic plot of The DaVinci Code, the theory finds its basis in writings from a 1945 document called The Gospel of Philip. The Gnostic Gospel says Mary Magdalene was referred to as Jesus’ ‘koinonos’, a Greek term for ‘companion’ or ‘partner’, and there is mention of Jesus kissing Mary often, though some say kissing was the custom and it was typical of Jesus to practice it with those close to him.

2. The U.S. Government Was Involved in 9/11

This has been the most researched conspiracy theory on the internet since September 11, 2001, and is likely another theory that will never be put to rest. Though the Al-Qaeda terrorists are allegedly responsible for the 9/11 attacks, many believe that the Bush administration knew of the upcoming attack and did nothing. Another belief is that some members of the U.S. government coordinated the attacks, using destructive materials, remote-control planes, and missile strikes. While there are different beliefs about how the attacks were carried out, the majority of conspiracy theorists agree that the attacks were used to fuel hatred and to justify the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

1. JFK Assassination

On November 22, 1963, the 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and there are countless conspiracy theories surrounding this killing. Theorists claim that more than one shooter were present there and that Lee Harvey Oswald was not solely responsible for the killing. Some believe that Oswald worked for the FBI, KGB or the Mafia, and that the murder was orchestrated because Kennedy wanted to bring an end to the Cold War and was against the Vietnam War, whereas another belief is that he was killed because he supported an invasion of Cuba. This is a case that will most certainly be debated about for centuries to come and thus takes the top position on our list.
