Snowflake (SNOW)’s AI Push Strengthens its Growth Outlook

Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) shares surged nearly 25% on September 3 after the company raised its fiscal 2027 product-revenue forecast to $6.07 billion from $5.84 billion, while second-quarter product revenue jumped 37% year over year to $1.49 billion, beating Wall Street expectations. Management said AI offerings contributed about half of the growth acceleration, suggesting AI is translating into greater demand and consumption across Snowflake’s core data platform.

The AI momentum is also becoming more visible in customer adoption. Snowflake’s coding assistant, Cortex Code, reached more than 9,100 customer accounts, adding over 2,000 during the quarter, while its enterprise AI chatbot CoWork expanded to 5,800 accounts.

Accelerating AI Adoption Supports the Bull Thesis

Snowflake Inc.’s strongest bullish argument is that AI appears to be increasing demand for its existing data infrastructure rather than simply creating a standalone AI-product opportunity. As companies deploy more AI applications, they need greater access to, organization of, and analysis of enterprise data, potentially driving additional workloads and consumption on Snowflake’s platform. Reuters noted that AI accounted for about half of the growth acceleration, suggesting the AI boom is beginning to translate into measurable business momentum.

The company’s accelerating product revenue is another positive signal. A 37% year-over-year increase represents a meaningful improvement in growth momentum, while the higher full-year forecast indicates that management expects the strength to continue. The combination of accelerating core demand and growing AI adoption could give Snowflake multiple avenues for sustaining elevated growth.

Customer adoption of Cortex Code and CoWork further strengthens the bull case. Rapid increases in account adoption suggest that Snowflake Inc.’s AI products are moving beyond experimentation and gaining traction with enterprises. If these users subsequently increase consumption, Snowflake could benefit from a compounding effect in which AI workloads generate more data activity, which in turn increases demand for the company’s broader platform.

There is also evidence that Wall Street is becoming more constructive. Reuters reported that at least 34 brokerages raised their price targets following the results, with Wells Fargo setting a Street-high target of $525. Jefferies argued that Snowflake’s premium valuation can be supported by its position as a leading enterprise data-cloud provider and the ability of AI to generate new workloads.

Competition and Valuation Cloud the AI Opportunity

The biggest concern is valuation. Even after the strong results, Snowflake Inc. trades at roughly 15 times forward revenue, versus about 7.4 times for the broader software ETF. Its forward earnings multiple is also substantially above peers such as Datadog and MongoDB. This leaves relatively little room for execution mistakes: if AI-driven growth slows or management’s forecasts prove too optimistic, the stock could face a sharp valuation reset.

The magnitude of the share-price reaction itself creates another risk. Snowflake had already risen about 41% during the year through September 2, compared with a 12% gain for the S&P 500, before the latest surge. Investors are therefore increasingly paying for continued acceleration. The company’s next quarters will need to demonstrate that the current AI momentum is sustainable rather than simply reflecting an initial wave of enthusiasm.

Competition also remains an important consideration. Bloomberg highlighted Databricks, widely viewed as Snowflake Inc.’s biggest rival, which recently reached a $190 billion valuation and reported a revenue run-rate above $7 billion with growth exceeding 80%. Strong competition for enterprise AI and data workloads could make it difficult for Snowflake to maintain its current growth trajectory and premium valuation.

Finally, AI adoption numbers do not automatically translate into equivalent revenue growth. Growing customer accounts for Cortex Code and CoWork demonstrate interest, but investors will ultimately need evidence of sustained usage, monetization, and incremental consumption. If customers experiment with AI products without materially increasing spending on Snowflake’s platform, the long-term financial impact could fall short of current expectations.

Conclusion

Snowflake Inc.’s AI momentum is strengthening growth and driving greater demand across its data platform, supporting a more bullish outlook. However, the stock’s elevated valuation and strong recent rally leave limited room for disappointment. Overall, Snowflake’s fundamentals remain compelling, but sustained AI monetization and continued growth acceleration will be crucial to justify its premium valuation.
