On July 2, Nuvei, a global financial technology company, said it had completed a live agentic-commerce proof of concept with Visa Inc. (NYSE:V), merchant technology provider Arvato Systems, and fashion brand Kings and Priests. The PoC demonstrated the first in-agent purchase where an AI agent completed a payment entirely on a shopper’s behalf without redirecting to a separate checkout page, Nuvei said.

The company detailed that in the test transaction, a merchant’s AI agent initiated the product purchase, and the payment was authorized and settled using a tokenized Visa credential through Visa Intelligent Commerce, which is Visa’s framework for enabling AI agents to transact securely. Multiple issuing banks across Europe participated in processing the payments on live Visa rails, and the transactions were kept within shopper-defined guardrails such as spending limits and approved purchase categories, Nuvei said.

The PoC builds on Nuvei’s broader “Nuvei Agentic” initiative, which is an execution layer designed to let any AI agent initiate and complete payments regardless of which protocol or network it uses. It extends agentic commerce beyond simple product discovery into full purchase completion.

Mathieu Altwegg, Visa Europe’s Head of Product and Solutions, said the effort falls under Visa Agentic Ready. This is an extension of the company’s existing tokenization and network-level fraud controls that allows agent-initiated payments to be handled in a consistent, trustworthy way. Altwegg noted that authentication methods will continue evolving as adoption scales.
