Ahead of the fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 report on September 1, Benchmark raised its price target on Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) to $400 from $340 while maintaining a Buy rating. According to analyst Yi Fu Lee, PANW is positioned to exceed consensus expectations for next generation security annual recurring revenue, revenue, operating income and margin, and free cash flow and margin.
Lee pointed to robust cybersecurity demand as the company closes its July quarter. However, Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) trades at a premium valuation to almost every historical valuation metric. Its P/E ratio has climbed to 173.60x in Q3 FY 2026 as per Yahoo Finance. The upcoming results must therefore justify that AI enthusiasm is converting into measurable ARR growth, accelerating platformization expansion, and a compelling fiscal 2027 outlook.

Healthy Demand gives PANW a Strong Setup
Lee highlighted several pockets of strength for Palo Alto Networks. This includes healthy demand for network security tied to AI infrastructure buildouts, the company’s cloud security platform Prisma Cloud, secure access service edge offering called Prisma SASE, its unified AI security platform Prisma AIRS, and AI-driven security operations platform Cortex XSIAM.
For its previous quarter, the company reported a revenue increase of 31% to $3 billion, while Next-Generation Security ARR reached $8.1 billion, up 60%. This included contributions from CyberArk and Chronosphere. According to Nikesh Arora, chairman and chief executive officer of Palo Alto Networks, Q3 was a standout quarter for PANW marked by accelerating organic bookings growth as customers used PANW to secure their AI deployments at scale.
The company’s platformization strategy is also gaining traction, with 110 net new platformizations this quarter. Its AI-adjacent solutions are also witnessing strong adoption, with the customer count for its automated security operations solution, XSIAM, reaching 740 in the previous quarter.
Premium Valuation
PANW’s stock appreciation has pushed its valuation multiples well above historical norms. Investors anticipate rapid growth for the cybersecurity company and AI security demand; something more than a routine earnings beat can deliver.
This is also the tension pointed out by Benchmark: PANW must prove that the AI enthusiasm surrounding PANW is converting into measurable ARR growth, platformization deals are expanding, and that management also delivers an upbeat framework for fiscal 2027. This is a high bar for the upcoming earnings print,
Hedge Fund Sentiment
Hedge fund holdings show steady interest in PANW. According to Insider Monkey’s database, 87 hedge funds held positions in the first quarter of 2026. This number increased to 89 in the subsequent quarter.
The stock has a short interest of nearly 21.00 million shares, which represents roughly 2.58% to 2.61% of its public float. The limited short interest represents limited bearish skepticism for Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW).
Overall, Benchmark’s $400 price target adds to a growing number of Wall Street bulls betting on PANW’s AI story. However, its premium valuation changes the equation, with the stock now needing to prove healthy cybersecurity demand as well as sustained ARR growth.
