Nokia Corporation (NOK) Lumia 920 Pre-Orders Set for Oct. 21

Nokia CorporationNokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) has been getting some positive reviews for its new flagship handsets in the weeks since their unveiling in New York last month, but the company has lost momentum in the weeks since due to uncertainty about release dates, the wireless carriers that will be offering the handsets, as well as the retail prices.

But in the weeks since, some details in those areas have slowly come out, and now it’s getting to the point that Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) may ride on the coattails of an intensive marketing effort by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which is promoting its Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems – the latter being the platform that Nokia Corporation (NOK) will be using in its Lumia 820 and 920 handsets.

With Windows due to come out around October 26, Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) has announced that the top three U.S. wireless carriers – Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ), AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) – and it is now announcing that AT&T Inc. (T)- which has been the one wireless carrier to be a loyal retailer of Nokia handsets in the past – will be accepting pre-orders for the Lumia handsets as of Sunday, October 21.

It is expected that the Lumia 820 and 920 will be released in early November, after Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) does his launch in a couple weeks. But not only will AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) offer not only the Windows handsets, but it will also sell other devices that run the Windows 8 operating system. How much of a role Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) will play in the promotional work of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) remains to be seen, but to have a date finally should be seen as positive to investors like billionaire fund manager Paul Tudor Jones of Tudor Investment Corporation.
