SEMICON Taiwan 2013: Forums draw TSMC, Globalfoundries (DigiTimes)
A series of technology forums will be held at SEMICON Taiwan 2013, which takes palce from September 4-6, to discuss industry trends, challenges and technologies for future semiconductor processes. Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:TSM) R&D executives, and Globalfoundries CEO Ajit Manocha will participate in one of the forums named “Executive Summit” to talk about the trends and issues facing the industry. Globalfoundries plans to spend about US$4.5 billion in 2013 to boost production capacity, and has claimed that the foundry’s combined 2011-13 capex will top US$10 billion. Meanwhile, Globalfoundries has been aggressively vying for 28nm chip orders from major fabless IC firms, including Qualcomm and MediaTek. Industry watchers identify the foundry as the second-largest contract chipmaker in the 28nm sector.
