How Netflix’s Bet on Originals Is Already Paying Off (Variety)
Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) original series like “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black” aren’t great for attracting new subscribers — but they’ve become a key way for the No. 1 streaming service to retain them. That’s according to a new consumer survey by RBC Capital Markets. In a survey of 1,078 U.S. Internet users, the Wall Street firm found that 43% of Netflix customers said original content was a “moderately” to “extremely” important factor influencing their decision to keep the service.

These ads showcase a bunch of the popular television shows that you can stream on Netflix. It doesn’t bother to show you any of its originals (it has a new ad for that as well), but just the shows that already have big followings, like Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Glee, New Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Mad Men, Once Upon A Time, The Killing, Scandal, Revenge, Family Guy, Burn Notice, Parks & Recreation, and of course The Walking Dead.

Some Netflix users are asking a federal appellate court to vacate the company’s $9 million settlement of a class-action privacy lawsuit. The users argue that the settlement, which was approved in March, doesn’t benefit Netflix members who were affected by the alleged privacy glitch.
