Jim Cramer on Ondas (ONDS): “It’s Not Great, Not Bad”

When a caller asked about Ondas Inc. (NASDAQ:ONDS) on September 10 during the lightning round of Mad Money, Jim Cramer remarked:

Alright, this is a meme stock. You’ll see it trade underneath all morning, Ondas, because it’s like wireless and autonomous. It’s got all that stuff. And I’ll tell you what I think of it: It’s okay. It’s a meme stock. I mean, it’s okay. It’s not great, not bad. I wish I could be less wishy-washy, but that’s all it really is.

Explosive Top-Line Scaling and Expanding Defense Backlog

The bull case for Ondas Inc. focuses on extraordinary top-line momentum and rapid integration within defense and autonomous systems markets. In the second quarter, the company posted $83.8 million in revenue, representing a 1,235% year-over-year surge.

The management also raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to between $525 million and $550 million. Supporting this growth profile is a record $757 million pro forma backlog. Strategic acquisitions, including DZYNE Technologies, have expanded Ondas Inc.’s defense portfolio, positioning the company to capture defense expenditures dedicated to autonomous defense networks and counter-drone systems.

Widening Losses, Integration Risk, and Operational Friction

Despite rapid top-line growth, the primary downside risks for Ondas Inc. come from severe operational friction and complex integration demands across recently acquired entities like DZYNE and Cyberhawk. Managing multiple simultaneous integrations can create supply chain bottlenecks, elevate corporate overhead, and create manufacturing execution risks as the company attempts to ramp production.

Moreover, while management targets operating platform profitability by the fourth quarter of 2026 and consolidated company-wide adjusted EBITDA profitability by Q4 2027, the multi-quarter transition highlights continued cash burn and near-term margin pressure. Any delays in component sourcing, defense contract finalization, or operational scaling could cause revenue shortfalls, leaving the company’s expanded cost structure vulnerable to earnings misses and subsequent valuation compression.

Institutional Retreat Meets an Elevated 40% Short Float

Smart money sentiment toward Ondas Inc. has turned distinctly cautious. According to Insider Monkey’s database, 22 hedge funds held a stake in the company in Q2, representing a drop from 34 hedge funds in the prior quarter. At the same time, short interest remains elevated at 40% of the float, turning the stock into a heavily shorted name in its sector.

Ondas Inc. represents a formidable defense backlog alongside impressive top-line growth. However, its expanding operational losses and heavy short interest leave the stock balanced precariously between high-risk execution and rapid fundamental turnaround.
