Apple Television Rumors: Is Apple Closer than Ever to Entering Television Market?

Apple Television Rumors: When it comes to offering superior technology that appeals to a large group of people, it is hard to argue that any company is ahead of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). For this reason, there have always been intense rumors that the tech giant will eventually enter the television market on a large scale.

As recently reported by the Wall Street Journal, it appears that this dream for many may become a reality soon enough. The article notes that:

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is working with component suppliers in Asia to test several designs for television sets, suggesting that the company is moving closer to expanding its offerings for the living room.

Not only could this be a big move for Apple, but it would shake things up for other big tech companies including Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Samsung.

In the same article, global investment banking Goldman Sachs is quoted as saying:

The potential for consumer lock-in that the television creates will likely drive platform companies to continue exploring the space. As such, while the battle is just getting started on this front, we see it as having the potential to either further entrench current winners, such as Apple, or completely disrupt the market once again.

If you believe everything that Apple CEO Tim Cook says, there is good reason to think that Apple will eventually move in this direction.

He recently told NBC News that turning on a television today is like going “backward in time 20 to 30 years. It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”

By saying that, Cook has said enough.

Although big things may be on the horizon for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the television market, the future is not free of hurdles. In addition to snagging deals with those that will sell the device, they must also build relationships with the nation’s biggest cable companies.
