The life/annuity and property/casualty insurance segments increased their exposures to hedge funds in 2020, leading to an overall 6 per cent increase in insurance industry investments, according to the latest AM Best report. The new Best’s Special Report, “Hedge Funds Remain an Option for Some Insurers,” notes that during 2020 the hedge fund market did not fall as far as the public markets and recovered more quickly and efficiently.

Buyout and VC exits are on a tear this year with record IPOs. How long will it last and are valuations getting too hot? We spoke previously about the rapid run-up in venture capital (VC) deal-making going on this year in North America, but GPs are exiting companies as fast as they’re adding them to their portfolios. Buyout and VC funds have already exited more than $387bn in positions since the start of the year – more than half of 2020’s total, and ahead of any year from at least the past decade.

Kodak CEO, Top Lawyer to Testify in NY Insider Trading Probe (Crains New York Business)
Eastman Kodak Co.’s chief executive officer must testify publicly in an investigation of whether his sale of company shares last year constituted insider trading, a judge ordered. CEO James Continenza and General Counsel Roger Byrd must answer questions this fall and produce documents this month in the probe by New York Attorney General Letitia James, New York state judge Barbara Jaffe ordered on Tuesday. James asked the court this month to order Kodak and the executives to provide evidence, saying she had “determined to commence an action” against Kodak and Continenza.

At Corcept Therapeutics, a filing with the SEC revealed that on Friday, Director G. Leonard Baker Jr. bought 150,000 shares of CORT, for a cost of $21.53 each, for a total investment of $3.23M. So far Baker Jr. is in the green, up about 9.1% on their purchase based on today’s trading high of $23.48. Corcept Therapeutics is trading up about 6.2% on the day Wednesday. Before this latest buy, Baker Jr. purchased CORT on 8 other occasions during the past twelve months, for a total investment of $1.44M at an average of $15.44 per share. And at Atara Biotherapeutics, there was insider buying on Monday, by Chief Commercial Officer Kristin Yarema who bought 34,354 shares for a cost of $14.57 each, for a trade totaling $500,370. This purchase marks the first one filed by Yarema in the past year. Atara Biotherapeutics is trading up about 6.8% on the day Wednesday. So far Yarema is in the green, up about 2.7% on their purchase based on today’s trading high of $14.96.
