Facebook Inc. (FB) Immerses Itself In Artificial Intelligence With Wit.ai Acquisition

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) desire to enhance its artificial intelligence technology has seen it acquire Wit.ai, a company that specializes in developing speech-recognition software. Bloomberg’s, Sarah Frier, believes the giant social network is pushing to acquire Wit.ai as an attempt of trying to understand what people usually say in videos.

Wit.ai specializes in developing artificial intelligence software’s that developers can use to add voice recognition in programs. Its technology has already been found to be accurate than most of the cutting edge technologies developed by other companies.

“Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) itself is based on an algorithm that takes all these posts and ranks them based on how popular they should be in the network and they use all sorts of data. What if Facebook knew what people were saying in videos or what pictures they had as part of their content? They are trying to get there,” said Mrs. Frier.

Frier expects to Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) to use Wit.ai technology to understand materials in user’s posts, information it can use to enhance its interface and may also be of importance in enhancing its advertising campaign. The startup’s simple natural language processing API has already enabled a number of developers turn speech and text into actionable data.

“This company makes open-source software that lots of apps developers use for their own applications. Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) also has a very quickly growing developer community using its tools so this would also help them,” said Mrs. Frier.

Wit.ai’s technology is essentially a natural language processing tool that can de-code what people are saying or what they speak in videos. The technology is different from Siri as it is not a call and respond thing, but more of an application able to figure out commands that people might be giving.

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) is not the only company that has immersed itself in artificial intelligence space. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) are also spearheading efforts in this space with a number of products.
