Friday is widely considered the least effective day to announce corporate updates in the financial markets, especially for firms wanting to receive maximum attention, as it is typically when investors and analysts begin winding down for the weekend. This, in turn, prompts lesser participation and liquidity in the market.

In most cases, companies announce their results between Tuesdays and Thursdays when investor engagement is typically the highest.

There are exceptions, though. Others report on Fridays when their reporting schedules fall on the said day. In most cases, smaller companies choose Fridays to avoid competing for attention with large-cap firms.

Last Friday alone, only 39 publicly listed firms published their results, significanlty lower than the 150 the day prior. Of the 39, these four companies notably delivered earnings-per-share surprises, markedly beating analyst consensus:

Noodles & Company (NASDAQ:NDLS) posted $0.18 earnings per share in the second quarter of the year, exceeding analyst expectations by $0.23 after analysts projected the firm to record a $0.05 loss per share for the period.

World Acceptance Corporation (NASDAQ:WRLD) surprised Wall Street with earnings results on July 24, having surpassed EPS estimates by $1.54 to end at $2.12.

Lamb Weston Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:LW) registered $0.87 EPS on Friday, July 24, topping expectations by $0.24.

Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corporation (NYSE:BAH) posted $1.81 EPS on Friday, July 24, surpassing expectations by $0.33.
