With the US economy on a slow but steady upward trajectory, employees across the country will most likely experience paycheck rises throughout 2014. This is certainly true for those working in the technology industry, a sector which had performed relatively well even during the financial crisis. But which are the best paying cities for tech workers?

Following, we would like to present you with a list we have compiled of the top 10 highest paying cities in the US for people working in the technology industry, based on the statistics released by Dice.com. Dice.com is a technology career website, which has been evaluating how tech workers are paid across the US for the past 23 years. The following cities are ranked according to average yearly salaries and we have also included the rate with which paychecks have increased compared to 2013.

For the ninth year in a row, the title of highest paying city for tech works is held by Silicon Valley. Though granted not per se a city, Silicon Valley, but its influence in the world of technology is too big not to take into account. Salaries are up in the area, by 7%, after they had previously dropped the year before by 2.8%. Shravan Goli, the current president of Dice.com, states that this increase can be accounted for by the rise in angel investing in the area, as well as by the fact that big tech moguls which are headquartered in Silicon Valley, such as eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) or Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) are growing and hiring more and more people.

Our second spot is held by the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area, which has been runner-up for the past 5 years in a row. In this case, salaries did not register any increase compared to the previous report, mainly due to the government sequestration. The biggest tech payers in the area are Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), and the aerospace industry. In addition, giants Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) and Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) are also on the lookout for tech talent.
