Counterfeiters Just Love Apple Inc. (AAPL)

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) products are so popular that even though the Apple Watch is just the first generation of a product from Cupertino, California, counterfeiters are making a bet that the product will sell well. That’s because fake Apple Watches are already available on the markets which means counterfeiters are investing money into producing copies of the product.

Eunice Yoon, in a recent discussion on CNBC’s Squawk Box, showed her colleagues a version of a fake Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) smartwatch. Yoon says that she has had the device for a month and a half which speaks to how fast counterfeiters are at making copies of popular products.

According to Yoon, the watch looks somewhat similar but there is no touchscreen and it only has a Bluetooth function which can be used to monitor health. However, instead of connecting to an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, the device can only be paired with Android devices.

Andrew Ross Sorkin jokes that if ever Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO was watching the show, he would have fallen off his treadmill this morning.

Meanwhile, aside from health monitoring, the device can also tell the time as a watch is supposed to. Aside from that, Yoon says that the battery life of the device is “pretty good”.

The CNBC reporter also says that she has had the device for over a month and it is still working, reacting to Ross asking whether the device should be expected to work after a week.

Rebecca Quick comments that the fact that this product exists is why Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and other companies have problems.

Nonetheless, Yoon says that the launch in China of the Apple Watch was overall quiet but people were excited for the new wearable. She added, however, that people in the country would have preferred that the Apple Watch was also able to pair with Android devices.
