Charles Paquelet’s Skylands Capital Is Bullish On These Stocks

In the current round of 13F filings, hedge funds and other institutional investors are disclosing their equity portfolios as held at the end of the last year. One of them is Skylands Capital, managed by Charles Paquelet. In its latest 13F, the fund revealed an equity portfolio with a total value of about $921.60 million, for the fourth quarter of 2013.

Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP)

In this piece, we are going to discuss the five largest holdings from the Skylands Capital’s equity portfolio, in terms of value, as at the end of last year.

Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) is the first holding, in which the fund owned 460,000 shares, with a reported value of $77.28 million. On Feb. 6, Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) announced the election of Lance M. Fritz as president and COO of Union Pacific Railroad, the principal operating company.

Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE:CCI) is the second largest holding, which amasses 981,500 shares. The fund disclosed a stake of $72.07 million.  The company owns and operates shared wireless infrastructure. It owns, operates, builds, and leases towers, rooftops, and distributed antenna systems (DAS) in prime markets for wireless communications.

Skylands Capital revealed ownership of 471,100 shares of Norfolk Southern Corp. (NYSE:NSC). The value of the stake amounts to around $43.73 million. Norfolk Southern Corp. (NYSE:NSC), a transportation provider in North America, reported fourth-quarter 2013 net income of $513 million, compared to $413 million in the same quarter of 2012.

In Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), the fund revealed a stake of about $28.53 million. The fund reported ownership of 50,850 shares of the company that designs, manufactures mobiles, personal computers, and portable digital music players. In January, the company announced that customers spent more than $10 billion on the App Store in 2013.

The fifth-largest holding is Ryder System Inc. (NYSE:R) in which the fund disclosed a about $28.24 million stake. The fund holds 382,700 shares of Ryder System Inc. (NYSE:R), a commercial transportation, logistics and supply chain management solutions company.
