BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) Delays to Fix “FREAK” Security Flaw

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY), a Canadian Smartphone maker which is famous for world’s most protected devices, is still having a tough time dealing with a serious security flaw in its devices, even it was discovered two weeks ago. A ZDNet article reported on the news and discussed about the security flaw in Blackberry’s affected devices.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has given a warning to users that its devices and encrypted messaging services are vulnerable to a serious security flaw and the company has no solution of the problem at present. The affected devices will be vulnerable to a serious security flaw until a patch is released by the company.

“Further investigation into affected products is ongoing, and BlackBerry is working to determine the full impact of the issue and confirm the best approach for protecting customers. As fixes become available, this notice will be updated,” BlackBerry Ltd states on its website.

The FREAK flaw is a weakness in modern Web cryptography that enables a hacker to potentially intercept encrypted traffic between a vulnerable client and server and forces to use a weaker encryption which can be cracked easily. Even BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) was aware of FREAK flaw since the beginning of this month, it still hasn’t provided any solution for affected devices to prevent from such security vulnerability.

Devices affected by flaw includes essentially almost every product BlackBerry Ltd currently has in the market like every version of newer BlackBerry 10 devices, older BlackBerry 7.1 devices and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 12 and earlier. That’s not all, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Android, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhones, iPads and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Windows Phone are also affected by the flaw.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s products are popular and well known as most secured devices of the world and remain a first choice of business executives when it comes to using smart-phones for their business conversations or emails but the company should not let such serious security issue stay like this, it must have to bring a quick solution forward to prevent people from the flaw who trust so much in safety and security offered by the company.
