MacBook Pro Update: Apple MacBook Pro Gets Price and Processor Updates

Tim CookMacBook Pro Update: Although the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad and iPad mini are selling like hot cakes, it does not mean anything for its sales in the personal computer market. In fact, as more and more people turn to tablets it is safe to say that companies, such as Apple, will have a more difficult time keeping PC sales steady.

According to an official Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) press release, the company has made some changes to the MacBook Pro. More specifically, the MacBook Pro with Retina display will be “faster and more affordable.”

This is a great deal for consumers. After all, who doesn’t want a faster computer at a lower cost?

Here is what the opening paragraph of the release had to say:

“Apple is making the MacBook Pro with Retina display faster and more affordable with updated processors and lower starting prices. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display now starts at $1,499 for 128GB of flash, and $1,699 for a new 2.6 GHz processor and 256GB of flash. The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display now features a faster 2.4 GHz quad-core processor, and the top-of-the-line 15-inch notebook comes with a new 2.7 GHz quad-core processor and 16GB of memory. Apple today also announced that the 13-inch MacBook Air with 256GB of flash has a new lower price of $1,399.”

Those who are in the market for either a MacBook Pro with Retina display or 13-inch MacBook Air are sure to be happy with these changes.

Why is Apple doing this, you may wonder? Here is a brief excerpt from a Bloomberg article discussing the current state of the PC industry:

“Worldwide PC shipments declined 3.2 percent last year as consumers and retailers shifted to tablets and smartphones, according to researcher IDC, after a 1.7 percent gain in 2011. Apple’s latest MacBook lineup is part of a push to make products thinner and smaller without sacrificing performance.”

In the future, it is safe to say that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will continue to look for ways to make its Mac products thinner and lighter while keeping the performance at a high level and the price reasonable.

The Cupertino-based company did not waste any time making these products available to the public. The updated MacBook Pro with Retina display and MacBook Air models are now on sale online, at Apple retail stores, and through authorized resellers.
