Activist Jana Partners Takes a 13.5% Stake in Outerwall

Jana Partners, Outerwall: Minutes ago, activist Barry Rosenstein‘s Jana Partners disclosed a 13.5% stake in Outerwall (NASDAQ:OUTR), a filing with the SEC showed. Rosenstein, who has a history of instigating change at the companies he’s invested in, revealed a large position in Safeway Inc. (NYSE:SWY) last month.

In September, Outerwall said that it expects revenue in the range $569-$589 million, versus the previous outlook of $604-$630 million. The core diluted earnings per share of the company has also been trimmed to the range between $0.82 to $0.94, compared to $1.36-$1.51 per share estimated earlier. For the full year, Outerwall has trimmed revenue outlook to $2.274-$2.339 billion, from $2.372-$2.475 billion, and EPS to $4.72-$5.12, from $5.76 to $6.26.

David Cohen and Harold Levy’s Iridian Asset Management and Debra Fine’s Fine Capital Partners are also among Outerwall’s shareholders of the funds we track.
