Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Revamps Update Means With Windows 10 P2P Option

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will be changing the way it updates its operating system starting with Windows 10, a report from The Verge reveals.

According to the technology site, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will enable users to choose to update their operating systems using peer-to-peer (P2P) technology. What this means is that aside from the traditional update servers the company has been using to rollout patches and the like, users can choose to download updates from other local network computers, internet-connected computers and the traditional update servers of the company.

The P2P update system inside Windows 10 was discovered in a leaked build (10036) of Windows 10 preview which became available as a torrent download on Saturday, The Verge reports.

According to the publication, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s move to add a P2P update method for their Windows Update system should not be a shock to anybody after the company’s acquisition of Pando Networks in early 2013. Pando makes P2P file sharing technologies akin to what BitTorrent makes, The Verge adds.

Microsoft, Windows Update, Peer-To-Peer, P2P, Pando Networks, is MSFT a good stock to buy,

The change in update mechanisms from the traditional Windows Update system is expected to make operating system updates for Windows 10 users. Traditionally, the updates were sourced just from one place, typically a certain server Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) maintains. Getting an update from just one place or just one set of servers run the risk of overwhelming servers especially if the update is very large or if too many users update all at the same time.

By getting updates from other sources, Windows 10 updates are expected to be faster rolled out. Furthermore, having P2P technology often optimizes downloads by detecting the optimal sources to get data from.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is yet to make a formal announcement about whether it would move to a completely P2P system in the future.
