25 Countries Where Samsung’s Galaxy Smartphones Have The Largest Market Share

What are the countries where Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have the largest market share? Samsung is the most popular brand in the world which manufactures technology and is especially known for its mobile phones. You probably can’t find any homes without some product manufactured by Samsung whether it’s a fridge, TV, computer components, DVD/Blue-ray player or something else.a

The company has huge global influence and it is settled in almost every country in the world. It has increased its world market share of 21.3% from 2015 to 22.4% in 2016 and it currently holds the first position. The reason behind Samsung’s increasing market share is that it has launched very interesting products like S7 and S7 Edge for people who have a lot of money and it also adapted its policies to accommodate countries that have lower purchasing power. Samsung’s launch of J edition is a testament to this.

On the heels of  Samsung is Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) which has an 11.8% of global market share. We have already written about the Top Countries with Largest iPhone Market Share and now it is time to analyze the countries where Samsung’s mobile phones have the biggest market share.

We tried to compile this list of countries where Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have the largest market share, by doing a Google search but were frustrated with the fact most of the sites compare iOS market share to Android market share. When we searched for Samsung’s country by country market share, again we were presented iOS vs. Android market shares in each country. There were a few sources that tried to sell comprehensive research reports that answer this question, but we were in no mood to pay hundreds of dollars. So, we decided to use  App Brain which lists device by device market share in each individual country. Unfortunately, it didn’t provide the data in a spreadsheet, so we had to manually type in each country to calculate Samsung’s market share by aggregating the data.

We obtained the list of the most populous countries from United Nations and identified countries that have a population of at least 20 million. This means our list excluded smaller countries like Greece, Belgium, or Serbia. We have used information from Trading Economics to show you how each country deals with economics and how healthy the market is.

By the way, we noticed that Samsung has been losing significant market share in China, world’s most populous country. According to our calculations using App Brain’s data, Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have a 5.3% market share in China. Samsung’s market share in India, 14.8%, is also relatively low, though much higher than its market share in China. Here are the 25 countries where Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have the largest market share:

 

25. SOUTH AFRICA

Market share: 24 %

Average salary: 1331.795 $

Unemployment rate: 27.1%

South Africa does not have very balanced economic politics, so there is very high unemployment with very high average salary if we consider African continent. The most of the population are unemployed, so they can afford mostly phones from J edition like Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace (4.2% of market share), Samsung Galaxy J5 (3.3% of market share). Total market share of Samsung in this country is 24%.

24. ITALY

Market share: 25.8 %

Average salary: 2322.06 $

Unemployment rate: 11.9 %

In Italy for example, that is next on the countries where Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have the largest market share list, we have the unemployment rate which is quite good compared to other countries in the world and salary which is like other countries in the EU. Total market share is 25,8%, the most buying phone is Samsung Galaxy 3  (6.2%) and the more attractive and newer phone like Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has 3.4 % of market share.

23. BANGLADESH

Market share: 25.9%

Average salary: 93,161 $

Unemployment rate: 4.3%

Bangladesh is proof that economy of the country does not affect on how high the market share is, but it is a good indicator what people can buy from Samsung’s wide range of products. In this case, purchasing power gives the chance to the citizens to buy some phones from Samsung J edition, where we have Samsung Galaxy J2 as the most selling device in the country.

22. PAKISTAN

Market share: 26.8

Average salary: 416 $

Unemployment rate: 5.9 %

The most buying Android phone in Pakistan is Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime with 3.8 % of market share. Unemployment rate and average salary are acceptable for this region so the population can buy cheaper phones like Samsung Galaxy S3 (3.6%), Samsung Galaxy J5 (3.5), Samsung Galaxy S4 (2.8). Those are very good phones, which confirms that the Pakistanis are determined to pay more expensive phones.

21. ARGENTINA

Market share: 26.9%

Average salary: 1666.94$

Argentina is known for its very turbulent economy and political instability but last year’s county is on the right track, so companies have a better environment for investment and growing up like Samsung. Samsung market share in this country is 26.9%.  Most selling devices is Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (7%) and then comes J7 (5.5%) and J1 Ace (4.8%).

20. IRAN

Samsung market share in Iran is 27.3%. That is a very nice piece of the market because Iran in well known with the market which is not very open to companies around the world. Interesting thing is that Apple don’t have any store in Iran, but people are trying to find the why to buy these phones illegally. On the other hand, Samsung took a chance and placed wide ranges of its products, so the most popular products in the country are: Samsung Galaxy J7 (5.4 %), Samsung Galaxy J5 (5.0 %), Samsung Galaxy S3 (3.1 %).

19. THAILAND

Market share: 28.1%

Average salary: 391.69$

Unemployment rate: 0.99 %

Market share of Samsung in Thailand is 28.1%. The unemployment rate is very low, people have decent salaries, and they choose to spend money more rationally on J edition phones. J7 has a share of 6.7%, j2 5.2%, etc.

Grand prime phones are very popular in Egypt. Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo Plus has a share of 5.9%, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4.2% and pretty old version of note Samsung Galaxy Note3  has a market share of 3.5 %. Total market share is 30.9%.

17. SRI LANKA

Market share: 31.1 %

Average salary: 58.88$

Unemployment rate: 4.5%

Let see what people could buy with the average salary of $76.59. Sri Lanka seems to be a very undercover market because of low purchasing power but still, big players like Samsung have interest even there. Total market share is 31.1% probably because of lack of competition. Here is the phones they like: Samsung Galaxy J2 (5.3%), Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace (4.4%), Samsung Galaxy J7 (4.3%). Market share: 31.4%

Average salary: 402.72 $

Buying a phone in those countries seems to be prestige. Those indicators above (average salary and unemployment rate)  related to most buying phones makes confusion. Anyway, those devices have the biggest market share:  Samsung Galaxy S3 with even 11.1% of market share, then it is followed by  Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.7% market share and Samsung Galaxy Note3 with 4.5 % market share.

Market share: 33.4 %

Average salary: 3118.93 $

For France, one of the countries where Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have the largest market share on our list, we expected Samsung S7 or S6 to be the most selling phone but they, as we see, prefer Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime. That is a phone in the first place with 5% of market share and Samsung Galaxy S6 comes second with 4.4% of market share. Total market share is 33.4%.

As Samsung have to offer a large selection of mobile phones at various prices (unlike Apple) people can choose an affordable phone, and that is why Samsung holds almost half of market share in the United Kingdom.  The most selling phone is Samsung Galaxy S6 like in Canada, which shows how strong is purchasing power of UK citizens. Total market share is 46%.
