20 Most Educated Countries in Africa

3. South Africa

South Africa was able to secure the 3rd rank in our list of the most educated countries in Africa. South Africa’s commitment to education is evident through a substantial investment, constituting approximately 18% of the national budget. This dedication positions the country competitively globally, notably in its universities and various educational institutions. UNESCO’s assessment places South Africa as the 4th ranked country in Africa, achieving 58.4 points, standing 84th globally in the education system, 55th in staff training, and 53rd in schooling. Impressively, the nation boasts a commendable literacy rate of 94%.

Despite these achievements, South Africa faces challenges in its educational landscape as it strives for equal opportunities. The educational structure is organized into three strata: general education and training, further education and training, and higher education and training. Compulsory education extends through grade 9, covering a total of 12 grades. The initial six years are dedicated to primary school, focusing on the establishment of literacy and numeracy skills.
