19. Common mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps)

Distribution: Southern Africa, East Africa

This snake usually avoids meeting humans, but during the breeding season from September to February, they can be pretty irritable. After being bitten, the victim can experience severe pain and the site gets swollen, which leads to gangrene, nausea, vomiting, difficulty in swallowing and breathing, and sometimes paralysis. Death can occur within 30 minutes after envenomation.
