Pittsburgh is a home to 73,000 African Americans who account for 24% of city’s total population. Compared to previously mentioned Charlotte, Pittsburgh is a poorer city. White families have a median income of $54,178 and black ones only 26,853. Even more alarming is that more than one-third of black residents are struck by poverty compared to 16.6% of their white neighbors. Blacks mainly live on the east side of the city.
