It is legal to carry firearms openly in Maine, one of the states with easiest, least restrictive gun laws in America, and no state permit is required to buy and possess a shotgun, rifle or handgun. Also, it is legal to carry a firearm openly if you are at least 21 years old or between 18 and 21 on active duty in the Armed Forces or National Guard or if you are an honorably discharged veteran.
