What Apple Inc. (AAPL) Gains From Giving Public Access To iOS 8.3 Beta?

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has traditionally tested its beta version of iOS using its developers. But for the very first time, it is planning to release its beta version of iOS 8.3 for public testing. But why has Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) decided to make this change in process? Manhattan Venture Partners Chief Economist Max Wolff talked on CNBC about the reasons behind Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s decision to give public access to beta version of its iOS 8.3.

Apple, hacking, cyber security, apps, is Apple a good stock to buy, Kevin Mahaffey,

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released its beta version of MacOS for public testing before, but have never done any such attempt for iOS mobile platform and always relied on developers to do the same. Wolff feels that this is another milestone from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s perspective. He thinks that iOS mobile platform is the future and has majority of the presence for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). He pointed out that we are seeing the globalization of the world reflected by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) as its mobile devices are launched simultaneously or almost simultaneously around the world. So in order to appeal to all cultures, groups, usage patterns and get global consistency, public beta testing is the only way.

“[…] the other big issue here is that all this time frames are constricted. We used to see a new phone on may be every 16 months. We are going to see it more like a little bit less than every year. We used to see major operating system updates may be once a year, we are going to see them may be twice a year. So you need public out there working with you to fix it better, faster and more representatively because Apple is a huge global company with a little bit of time to perfect each operating system before the public gets fickle and the news articles about bugs start showing up and doing some damage,” Wolff said.

Wolff pointed out that with the public testing the beta version of iOS people are going to get better and more robust iOS. He added that the time that was taken by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to fix the bugs in OS is going to reduce a lot since a lot of hand gets into work with the new process of public doing the beta testing.
