Twitter Inc (TWTR) Working on New Features to Attract and Retain Users

Anthony Noto, Chief Financial Officer of Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), provided a progress report after four months, following up on when he and other company executives had outlined their product plans in November 2014. A Wall Street Journal article reported on the news and discussed about the updates and progress of Twitter’s latest features.

“It’s all about teaching people why they should use Twitter but in a very telegraphic way,” Noto said.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has been very active in recent months to create new features and redesign others with the goal of helping people understand how and why they should use the offered social media service. According to Noto, designing new product features help the company to keep its users with them which is one of Twitter’s main objectives as it also focuses on growing its user base and expanding its business.

At a technology conference, Noto said that since Twitter Inc has launched group chats in December 2014, the company has seen an increase in number of users who have used direct messages and number of total messages being sent in the private chat forums as well, and same is the case for its new video editing and upload feature that was released a month ago. There’s a nice increase in total number of videos captured and number of videos viewed as seen by the company. This week on Monday, Twitter Inc also announced that Twitter-hosted videos can now be embedded into websites.

At the end of January 2015, Twitter Inc also launched the “While You Were Away” feature, which tries to surface the three most relevant tweets that were sent while the user is offline. At present, this feature can be seen by users when they have been away for about 12 hours, but according to Noto, the company is working to show the feature in shorter time periods.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is also testing instant timelines as it generates feeds for new users, judging what accounts might be of interest to new users on the basis of their phone’s address book and apps they’ve installed, which helps in minimizing time consumption and reduces efforts to find interesting accounts for them. Twitter Inc is also working on testing the logged-out experience, which is to provide relevant content to 500 million visitors who want to use Twitter without logging in or signing up, as these visitors don’t get much up till recently but a screen telling them to do so. Now the company is putting its efforts into makeing a way to show them interesting tweets even if they’re not registered users.

“There’s been mild improvement, but nowhere near what the opportunity is in front of us,” Noto said.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has recently introduced many new features to its users in order to retain them and to enlarge its current customer base but the company has a lot more room for improvement towards being a social media giant of the world. Twitter Inc has the potential to grow and has a bright future as said by experts; the company might not be performing at its best and highest possible level at present, but it has much more to bring out in front of the world in future.
