Top 15 Largest Websites in the World: Google Inc (GOOG), Facebook Inc (FB) & More

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) are in the top tier of the largest websites in the world, but the rest of the members may surprise you.

The evolution of the Internet is easily one of the most important innovations not only of our time, but for future generations as well. From finding information on any subject imaginable, to making it possible to stay connected through social networking sites, companies like Google and Facebook have risen to the top of the business world’s peak, and are also members of the vaunted top 15 largest-club as well.

Furthermore, these companies now hold the same reverence that names like U.S. Steel and Marathon Oil have held for decades. Using data from Alexa, we’ve prepared this list based on their qualifications, which include the following primary criteria: “The 1 month rank is calculated using a combination of average daily visitors and pageviews over the past month. The site with the highest combination of visitors and pageviews is ranked  #1.”

This is important to realize, because without having access to each company’s internal analytics, the best way to estimate who’s on top in the website world remains a combination of average daily visitors and page views. Limiting views to a one-month time frame is intriguing, and insures that the Internet’s dinosaurs aren’t in the same class as a Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) or Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) would be.

Speaking of those two:

Facebook users will not be surprised to see where the company places on the list, now that it has crossed the 1-billion mark (and counting; it did so last October). Many investors question Facebook’s future, especially when it relies on advertising dollars to make up such a high percentage of its revenues. Still, the company’s recent introduction of Facebook Home has some more excited on its prospects to diversify. Here’s a great video explaining Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s service.

In Google’s corner, diversity is a reason why some investors–but not users–are nervous over Big G’s future, but the company has a plethora of products in the pipeline, from self-driving cars, to augmented reality glasses and more. This variety is also seen in our rankings, in which Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) lays claim to an astounding four of the top 15 largest websites in the world. There are other players too, though, and you may be surprised to see a few of them in here. Let’s get started.
