BlackBerry Market Share: Research In Motion Finally Beats Down Apple, Google At Something

BlackBerry Market Share: With Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry desperately trying to win back market share, any victory over Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and/or Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is one that the once dominant smartphone company will be proud of.

Well, just about any.

You will want to check out this piece – BlackBerry Tops iPhone and Android … In a “Don’t Want” Poll – published on All Things D, detailing Research In Motion/BlackBerry’s place in consumers’ hearts, and who better to use as comparisons than Apple and Google?

Research in Motion Ltd. (BBRY)It appears that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry beat out Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) in a poll that asked consumers which smartphone they would never use.

Here is a brief excerpt from the piece, explaining in greater detail:

“Here’s a novel way of polling consumer sentiment in the smartphone market: Don’t ask people which handset they prefer to use; ask them which one they would never use.

That’s what research house Raymond James did in a recent survey of consumer smartphone purchasing intent. And the results are interesting — if only as a reflection of the platform partisanship that’s so rife within the smartphone space.”

In the survey, Raymond James asked people which “features would make them more likely to buy a new iPhone or an Android or BlackBerry device.”

This is where it gets interesting. Of those consumers, 20 percent said they would never purchase an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone. This may seem like a lot, but it is nothing when compared to the 31 percent who said they have no interest in ever purchasing a phone powered by the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system.

What about BlackBerry? Well, this is when things get real bad. Roughly 71 percent said they would never purchase a phone from Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY).

While this may not be indicative of what the entire world thinks about the company, it goes to show just how much work they have to do to get back in the good graces of the public.

With Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) dominating the smartphone industry, this was somewhat expected. That being said, not too many people would have thought that 71 percent of respondents would never even consider a Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry device.

As we have discussed in the past, Research In Motion/BlackBerry is having a difficult time convincing consumers that its new operating systems, coupled with fresh smartphones, is an alternative to the top players in the market. This Raymond James survey appears to back up that claim.

But don’t let others influence you. You have to make your own decision as to whether or not a Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry device is right for you.
