Can A $29 Dollar Phone Turn Consumers Towards Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) In Emerging Markets?

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has since acquiring Nokia, made valiant effort to push up the sales of the smartphones. But it is bang on target by shooting at the emerging markets with cheap mobile. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will soon be selling its Nokia 215 mobile phone for a price tag of $29. Details about this new Nokia device were reported on CNBC earlier today.

Microsoft, Nokia 215, is MSFT a good stock to buy, Kevin Nabipour,

It was reported that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will be launching its new Nokia 215 Feature phone very soon in Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. This new mobile has a price target of $29, which shows the intention of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to jump into the cheap phone segment.

“With its new Nokia 215, Microsoft is now jumping on the cheap device band wagon. The new phone in primarily the emerging markets looks most affordable internet ready device with a $29 price tag. It would be rolled out in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe later this quarter,” as reported on CNBC.

The low price mobile market is already getting crowded with many of leading and domestic mobile phone manufacturers targeting it. Company as big as Samsung Electronics has already targeted this market through its Samsung Rex series mobiles for a price tag of $58 or lesser in India. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has launched its Android One device for a price tag of $85 to $100, again targeting the emerging markets. Intex has launched its Cloud FX smartphone for just $30 in India.

The domestic mobile manufacturers like Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo has heated up the competition with high end mobiles for relatively lower price tag. They have already started to eat up the market shares from big names like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics.

The only problem here is that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is trying to compete in the market with a feature phone, where some local made smartphones has similar price tag. But it might turn out to be a master stroke from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to go with feature phone as some people might look for a change from smartphones. We will have to wait and see the success of Nokia 215.
