If you believe a recent study from Chitika’s research arm Chitika Insights, you will see that the iPad is vulnerable.

With the biggest shopping day of the year in the rearview mirror, it is time to take a closer look at the winners and losers of the holiday shopping season. Chitika Insights took a close look at tablet data, both before and after Christmas day. When doing so, they focused primarily on web usage volume and market share.

The report and its results are based on “a sample of hundreds of millions of smartphone and tablet impressions from the Chitika Ad network” from December 1 to December 27 2012.

Here are the results, with a focus on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPad:

A study of web usage over the holidays in North America saw Apple’s iPad marketshare fall 7.14 percent, while competing devices from Amazon, Samsung and Google gained a total of 5.5 percent over the same period.

This substantial change underscores the inroads non-iPad tablets made this holiday season, reflecting some initial holiday sales estimates released by companies like Amazon. Their Kindle Fire HD tablet was the top-selling product on Amazon.com on Black Friday. However, despite the gains by competitors, we expect that the iPad’s share of tablet traffic will return to the 80% range, albeit lower than pre-holiday levels, as users return from vacation and browse with their new devices less frequently.

Despite the fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPad may have lost some ground to the competition, based on this study, the device is still head and shoulders above the competition.

What do you think about this most recent study? Do you believe that the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad is losing ground?
