Billionaire Carl Icahn’s Top Picks At the End of 2013

In its latest 13F, Icahn Capital, managed by billionaire Carl Icahn, reported its equity portfolio held at the end of September 2013. The fund disclosed an equity portfolio worth $30.46 billion, which represents an increase from $24.64 billion held at the end of the third quarter of 2013.

We have selected top five companies in which the fund holds the largest long positions in terms of value.

Icahn Enterprises LP (NASDAQ:IEP) is the first-largest holding, as it was reported in the previous filings as well. Icahn currently holds 101.87 million shares, with a reported value of $11.15 billion shares. The stake represents a significant increase by around 1.46 million shares over the quarter. The position has been upped in December.

The next is CVR Energy, Inc. (NYSE:CVI), in which Icahn Capital owns 71.20 million shares, worth $3.09 billion. The stake remained unchanged over the quarter.

On the third place is Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), in which the fund disclosed a $2.65 billion stake. The fund owns 4.73 million shares, up from 3.88 million shares disclosed at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth position is held by Federal-Mogul Corp (NASDAQ:FDML), in which the fund disclosed ownership of 121.11 million shares, with a reported value of $2.38 billion. There was no change in number of shares from the previous quarter.

Icahn Capital disclosed a $1.84 billion stake in Forest Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:FRX). The fund owns 30.66 million shares of the company. The stake remained unchanged over the quarter.

In addition, Icahn significantly reduced his stake  in Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), to 2.67 million shares from 5.54 million shares, held previously.

Also, the fund raised its stake in Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:NUAN) to 60.78 million shares from 52.44 million shares reported at the end of the third quarter. In December, Icahn Capital reported raising its stake in Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:NUAN).
