Netskope (NTSK): Eight Analysts Raised Targets on the AI Security Opportunity, But the Cash Burn Is Real

Netskope's annual recurring revenue climbed 27% to $899 million and management raised guidance, drawing target increases from eight analysts on September 3, 2026. Free cash flow was still negative $29.8 million, and the company cut roughly 5% of its workforce to redirect spending toward AI.

On September 2, 2026, Netskope, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTSK) reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results. Revenue reached $220.5 million, beating guidance, annual recurring revenue climbed 27% year-over-year to $899 million, and remaining performance obligations jumped 36% to $1.35 billion. After management raised its full-year guidance, eight analysts raised price targets the following day.

Netskope (NTSK): Eight Analysts Raised Targets on the AI Security Pipeline, But the Cash Burn Is Real

Retention, Platform Adoption, and a $170 Billion+ AI Security Opportunity

RBC Capital raised its target on Netskope, Inc. to $20 from $18, keeping Outperform, pointing to 27% year-over-year ARR growth ahead of consensus and continued optimism around the AI security portfolio’s potential to accelerate ARR in the second half.

BMO Capital raised its target to $18 from $13, keeping Outperform, saying net new ARR upside flowing into a higher full-year growth outlook gives the firm greater confidence in the durability of Netskope’s top-line growth.

JPMorgan raised its target to $18 from $16, keeping Overweight, calling it a “healthy beat and raise” quarter driven by deepening platform adoption, with the fiscal 2027 outlook raised by more than the revenue beat itself.

Morgan Stanley raised its target to $16 from $14, keeping Overweight, calling net retention’s reacceleration to 114% “an unexpected positive.”

Piper Sandler, Baird, and BTIG also raised targets, and newly initiated Stephens started coverage at Overweight with a $21 target, arguing sentiment toward the broader SASE space is “too tilted to the negative.”

Supporting detail: customers generating over $100,000 in annual recurring revenue rose 23% to 1,686, now 87% of total ARR, and 59% of customers use four or more Netskope products, up from 51% a year ago. Non-GAAP gross margin reached 77%, and non-GAAP operating margin improved 11 percentage points to negative 9%.

All Eight Target-Raising Analysts Stayed Bullish, But the Cash Flow and Hiring Numbers Show the Cost of Chasing AI

None of the eight target-raising analysts turned cautious, so the bear case rests on the operating detail itself.

Netskope, Inc. posted negative free cash flow of $29.8 million in the quarter and guided to a full-year free cash flow margin of only about 2%, even after raising revenue guidance. Management cut roughly 5% of its workforce to redirect spending toward AI infrastructure, and CFO Andrew Del Matto said the shift to annual billing contracts is happening faster than expected, deferring cash collections. About half the sales force is still ramping, and third-quarter revenue guidance implies growth slowing to roughly 24%, down from 29% in the quarter just reported.

CEO Sanjay Beri highlighted a challenge built into securing AI systems: autonomous agents can move beyond controlled environments and exploit weaknesses without receiving specific instructions to launch an attack. As AI adoption drives more business toward Netskope, it is simultaneously creating a broader and more complex security landscape for the company to protect. Addressing that risk will require substantial ongoing investment, with the financial benefits potentially arriving only later.

What The Smart Money Sees

Hedge fund ownership of Netskope, Inc. rose to 35 funds from 31, suggesting institutional conviction is building alongside the analyst upgrades. Short interest sits at 6.62% of float, high enough to reflect real skepticism but well short of crowded bearish territory.

Takeaway

Eight analysts came away from this print more confident, and the retention, platform adoption, and AI security pipeline numbers back that read up. The unanimous bullishness is itself worth noting, particularly given the negative free cash flow, the workforce reduction, or the guided growth deceleration to 24% serving as reasons for caution.

Whether Netskope, Inc.’s AI security bet converts into large customers fast enough to fund itself, without another round of billing-transition and hiring costs, is the question the analyst notes leave for the numbers to answer.
