Is CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) becoming a buying opportunity after its recent sell-off? That is the question, as the stock is down about 38% from its 2026 highs. Despite the pullback, it remains up roughly 7% for the year.
On September 24, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee argued that the recent decline was unjustified. The analyst upgraded CoreWeave to Overweight from Neutral and raised his price target to $125 from $120, citing the company’s positioning to benefit from continued demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
A major part of the bullish thesis is CoreWeave’s improving pricing power. As demand for AI compute remains strong, the company has already increased prices on about 25% of its product portfolio. The pricing changes reflect robust demand for AI compute capacity as customers increasingly require infrastructure for AI inference.
Short-Term Contracts Focus
CoreWeave is also changing how it contracts its available capacity. Since June, the company has focused on short-dated customer contracts at higher prices, at about $40 million per megawatt. The new strategy matters because it lets the company capture current market pricing rather than being locked into lower-priced multi-year agreements. In addition, it can enjoy higher revenue per megawatt as demand for AI infrastructure remains strong.

The strategic shift has strengthened the company’s growth story from simply adding more GPU capacity to monetizing scarce capacity at increasingly attractive rates. The JPMorgan analyst expects the shift to accelerate revenue growth and widen profit margins.
This represents an important evolution in CoreWeave’s growth strategy. Rather than relying solely on adding more GPUs and data-center capacity, the company is increasingly focused on monetizing scarce compute capacity at attractive rates. JPMorgan expects the strategy to support faster revenue growth and improve profit margins.
Shorter Contracts Create a New Risk
While short-term AI compute contracts at premium prices could improve near-term revenue and margins, they also carry significant risks. Shorter contracts expire sooner, potentially making future revenue more dependent on prevailing AI-compute demand and pricing.
CoreWeave, Inc. itself has emphasized that its typical five-year contracts create predictable cash flows after the upfront investment. If shorter contracts require the company to replace customers continually, it could face periods of lower utilization while still carrying substantial debt and data-center costs.
That risk matters given CoreWeave’s significant capital requirements and debt obligations. The economics of shorter contracts therefore depend heavily on whether demand for AI compute remains strong enough to support premium pricing.
Hedge Fund Positioning
Despite CoreWeave, Inc.’s recent underperformance, institutional interest in the company increased during the second quarter. The number of hedge funds holding CoreWeave increased to 71 in the second quarter from 63 in the first quarter.
Among individual hedge fund positions, Magnetar Capital reduced its exposure by 25% to $5.18 billion, while Alyeska Investment Group increased its stake by 56% to $1.08 billion. Value Aligned Research Advisors also increased its position by 32% to $1.08 billion, according to the Insider Monkey database.
Meanwhile, bearish positioning has moderated somewhat. Shares held short declined to 54.94 million as of September 15 from 58.86 million as of August 14. Nevertheless, short interest remained significant at 17.64% of the float.
The Verdict
CoreWeave, Inc.’s recent pullback has brought renewed attention to the stock’s valuation and growth prospects. Its growth outlook rests on continued AI infrastructure demand, stronger compute pricing, and the company’s ability to monetize scarce capacity at increasingly attractive rates.
For investors evaluating CoreWeave, the key question is whether the company can sustain premium pricing and high utilization while managing the financial burden of its rapid infrastructure expansion.
