Buckle (BKE) Approves Quarterly Distribution for Shareholders: What Backs the Payout

Steady Sales Growth and Evolving Business Mix

The company has generated encouraging figures for both comparable store net sales and net sales during 2026. On year-to-date basis, the comparable net sales have jumped 3.2% in comparison to last year. Net sales have grown 5% year-over-year so far in 2026, standing at $732.1 million.

Prior to that, the company reported higher average unit retail and average transaction value for the second quarter. This was despite a marginal drop in units per transaction. This led to a 2.1% year-over-year growth in comparable store sales, while online sales increased 2.3% compared to Q2 FY25. Net sales for the reported period stood at $319.8 million, up 4.6% compared to the same period last year.

The second quarter also marked a notable shift in overall business mix. Its high-margin private label merchandise accounted for 44.5% of the Q2 topline, up from 43.5% a year earlier. Similarly, the women’s apparel segment continues to grow, contributing almost half of the overall sales.

Bottom Line Slipped as Higher Costs Offset Sales Growth

The second quarter print was marked with some softness, as trends across certain categories were not equally impressive. With softness in some higher-priced national brands, men’s denim sales dropped by roughly 3.5% year-over-year. Management also acknowledged ongoing challenges for most retailers in regards to the company’s Footwear offerings. Overall sales for Men’s segments remained essentially flat compared to the second quarter in FY25.

SG&A expenses increased to 30.4% of net sales from 29.0%, driven partly by a 45 basis point increase in marketing spend and a 35 basis point rise in store labor expenses. Net income declined from $45 million in Q2 FY25 to $44.4 million in the reported quarter. Buckle posted GAAP diluted EPS of $0.87, down from $0.89 in the corresponding period last year.
