Why Apple Inc. (AAPL) And Google Inc. (GOOGL)’s Encryption Effort Might Go In Vain?

Law enforcement officials are pushing to block Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) from enhancing data encryption of their servers. During an interview on Bloomberg, Jordan Robertson, argued that regardless of encryption, government agencies like the NSA will always end up with whichever data they are looking for.

Google GOOG

“There are a lot of misconception about what Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) encryption features can and can’t protect on your phone. At the onset, this new encryption features that Google and Apple are adding are an important step forward for user’s security. […] However, law enforcement still has many-many ways to get access to data that passes through your phone, “said Mr. Robertson.

Google and Apple according to Robertson will be successful in protecting data stored in phones but the government will always enjoy full access whenever data is being transferred. Encryption of data in devices will mostly affect small law enforcement agencies which are mostly required to get warrants in order to access data of individuals under investigations.

Highly financed agencies with superior capabilities like the NSA according to Robertson will not be deterred by any encryption that Google and Apple might put in place.

“What this will really affect are photos, and for local enforcement photos are central to their investigations. You know they will see pictures of people doing bad things, and they can form the basis of their prosecutions based on that, “said Mr. Robertson.

Law enforcement agencies have over the years relied on information stored in devices to solve crimes ranging from homicides to drug trafficking. Inter agencies coordination i.e. between the NSA and local police agencies will essentially thwart Apple and Google plans in ensuring full-proof protection of user’s data.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) have been forced to up security of their data banks in the wake of increased cyber-attacks targeting vital information. It needs to be seen the kind of encryption that the two tech companies will initiate and if they will be successful in barring the NSA.
